Viking Lander First Mars Image

This is the first image ever transmitted from Mars, on July 20 1976. The image was taken almost immediately after landing because of fears the craft may sink into the Martian surface, fears brought about by earler Russian efforts to land on Mars where transmissions had ceased upon landing.
