Sputnik 2 was the second spacecraft launched into Earth orbit by Russia, at 19:12:00 on November 3, 1957, and was the first spacecraft to carry biological material, the unfortunate dog named Laika who died a few hours after the launch due to a faulty heating system. It was a 4 meter high cone-shaped capsule with a base diameter of 2 meters.
